I was way late on rewarding about half of my class for reaching a particularly important reading goal. I had promised a homemade treat, and I hadn’t come through on my end of the deal. And, I was short on time.
I knew the traditional variety wouldn’t make the impression I was looking for, so instead of grabbing Rice Krispies off the shelf at the grocery store I went for a box of swirled Trix. They’d mix up just as easily with melted marshmallow, right?
Yes…DEFINITELY.
These Trix treats were a huge hit, with the kiddos and my at home taste tester; who, by the way, was equally impressed. He was won over after the first bite.
If you think about it, there are so many possibilities just waiting to be explored on the cereal aisle: Cheerios (so many varieties there alone!), Kix, Cocoa Puffs, even Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles. I even saw that Post is making Cupcake Pebbles now. So many varieties!
Next time you want a fun, quick treat think of making these colorful wonders or get creative with some marshmallows and a cereal of your choice. Just make sure you come back and share your creation with me. I’m always looking for a new way to make this treat!
Trix Treats
You can make as much or as little of this recipe as you want. I wanted a thick bar that filled my 9×13 pan so I used the whole box of cereal.
1 (14.8 oz.) box of Trix
1 (16 oz.) bag of miniature marshmallows
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dump the entire box of cereal into a large bowl that has been coated with cooking spray or lightly oiled.
In a large saucepan melt the butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal. Stir until well coated. If you spray your spoon or scraper with cooking spray your ‘sticky’ problems will decrease immensely!
Press the mixture into a 9×13 pan coated with cooking spray. Let cool. Cut, serve and enjoy!

We do this all the time with marshmallows and whatever cereal happens to be around. Try golden grahams!
Funny, we just bought these for the first time this week. The girls love them. It’s like candy for breakfast add some marshmallow and it’s even better I’m sure.
My brother made these using Lucky Charms for a St. Patrick’s Day party- they were delicious!
What a shame we can’t get Trix cereal in Australia
My sister and I just posted a podcast blog how to make Rice Crispies using rice bubbles – but now I’m thinking Fruit Loops might give me better results!
If you want to be the hit of the party, show up with these!
Thanks for all your help. I bought this box of Trix cereal thinking the kids would love it, but they didnt. I thought instead of throwing the cereal away I would make something out of it. This recipe you posted sounds great!
heck yeah fruit loops would be awsome with all the colors
